I am very pleased with the Ibex auction hunt purchased at the March 2007 fundraiser. After an easy, but long, flight via Chicago-Instanbul-Bishkek, I joined two other North American hunters and ProfiHunt's Vladimir Koshcheev for a week long horse back hunt the first week of November. The first day of the hunt was spent on horseback traveling to the Kyrgyz' comfortable tent base camp. Day two was again horseback enroute to a spike camp, followed by an evening climb, no horses, through snow and over rocks, but no ibex were sighted. Spike camp was less comfortable and colder, but my sleeping bag was warm and I slept well. The next morning we rode, and then climbed, into a basin about two hours from camp. As the sun started to warm the cliffs around us, we started seeing ibex and this continued all day. The other hunters both scored with very long shots, but I returned to camp empty handed. However, the next day with Vladimir at the range finder, I collected a beautiful ibex with 50.5 in. horns!

The rest of the time was spent in base camp and then a couple of days in Bishkek before the trip home. This was a well organized and hassle-free hunt. Everyone was pleasant and worked hard to make it an enjoyable and successful trip. After purchasing the hunt, the only other expenses were airline tickets, tips and $160 for two nights in a hotel. I intend to hunt with Profi Hunt again. |
