Altai Argali hunting in Mongolia

This magnificent sheep inhabits Altai Mountains of western Mongolia, Russia and Kazakhstan. Mongolia is the only country where hunting for the Altai Argali is legally possible. Mongolian mountain desert steppe is ideal habitat for sheep and ibex. This country became one of the most popular destinations for mountain hunters who can expect a well organized hunt.

The average trophy size is 50-52 inches, with a number of trophies taken in excess of 55-58 inches.

Unfortunately the quality and quantity of sheep has diminished during the last several years due to endless number of livestock. Having population of 2, 8 millions people, Mongolia holds about 29 millions of domestic animals.

How to get there
You fly to Ulaanbaatar (UB) through Frankfurt or Moscow or Seoul, South Korea. You are met by our representative and assisted through customs and taken to hotel. Next morning you fly by “Fokker 50” to western Mongolia and then, we transfer you to camp.
Hunting season The season is from the 20th of July to the 15th of November.
Hunting
The hunting is done on foot using jeeps for transportation to the hunting area. Good number of rams is found at 7000-8500 feet / 2300-2800 m. During the day you will explore the upper edges of the mountains, glassing the hillsides, feeding and resting areas. You will spot rams, evaluate their size, and then make the stalk.
Base Camps
The camps are traditional Asian ger or yurts. They are warm, clean and comfortable with separate areas for dining, bathing and sleeping. Every camp has a cook and interpreter. You will find a very good food and a quality service. Electricity is supplied by generating sets.
Weather
In June, July and August the weather is generally moderate, with temperatures ranging between 50 F and 80 F / 10 C and 27 C. Nights are always cool due to the high elevation. Mongolia is known as the country with 255 cloudless days each year and as the Land of Blue Sky. Snow can be expected at the tops in the last decade of September.
