OTHER Language PDF - French, German
Capercaillie is one of the oldest birds on Earth. It is a large forest partridge. This bird has almost disappeared in most European countries but they are still plentiful in Russia. We keep our traditions of spring Capercaillie hunting. It is a very exciting hunt.
| How to get there |
You arrive to the international Moscow airport. Our crew meets you and assists through the customs. In the evening you take your night sleeper-train from Moscow to Kirov. It takes 10 hours to get there.
Kirov hunting area is located 500 miles away from Moscow. You have a chance to cover this distance, a part of famous, 6000 miles Trans-Siberian Railway, which crosses Russia from the West to the East. |
| Hunting season |
Season starts from April 20 and lasts till May 10. |
| Hunting |
You stalk Capercaillie very early in the morning almost in the darkness and you feel that even a light sound of your move, even your hart bits can frighten the bird away. Black cocks are hunted from a special branch ground blind. Short gun is recommended for Capercaillie and rifle of 222 Rem - for Black Cock. |
| Base Camps |
During the hunt you will be accommodated in the wooden hunting houses or cabins based on double occupancy. 10 different camps are available. We can accommodate 2-5 hunters per camp, with possibility to invite up to 40 hunters in one time. |
| Weather |
In April and May usually it is 59-68 F/ + 15-20 C at day time, at night the temperature may fall down to 32 - 41 F / 0 + 5 C. But weather is unpredictable, and occasionally it may snow or rain during this time. |
