Ibex hunting in Russia (Gorno Altai)
Gorno-Altai may be the best area of all at this point in time for a wildness hunt. Russian Altai is situated in the very centre of Asia at the junction of Siberian taiga, steppes of Kazakhstan and semi-deserts of Mongolia. The Altai Republic is the territory of highlands with a very picturesque landscape, a kind of "Russian Tibet" in the centre of Eurasia at the junction of several states, natural zones and cultural worlds.
The average trophy size is 39 - 45 inches / 100-115cm, with a number of trophies taken in excess of 47-48 inches / 120-122 cm. Hunt can be combined with Altai Wapiti , Siberian Roe deer and Wolf.

Fly to Moscow, meet our team, and then fly to Barnaul. You will accompanied by one of our English-Speaking professional hunting guides during the whole tour. The final destinations of your travel are villages Tungur or Kosh-Agash with 7-9 hour drive from Barnaul. They are located just 50-60 miles / 80-90 km from Mongolian Border. |
| Hunting season |
Ibex hunts run from the 1st of September to the 15th of November with the best time in September – October. Combination Altai Ibex & Elk (Maral) is recommended from the 25th of September to the 15th of October. |
| Hunting |
Hunting is based from horse back due to the immense amount of country that must be covered to hunt the animals successfully. Expect extensive horseback riding 8 – 10 hours a day and considerable walking. Some knowledge and experience with horses and ridding is a must. During the day you may travel the upper edges of the mountains, glassing the hillsides and feeding areas. A temporary tented camp is set up with the specific goal of hunting a particular animal or area. Rams are generally located in remote county at 6,500 -7,000 feet / 2,200-2,500 m. Once the trophy is spotted you complete your stalk on foot. |
| Base Camps |
Camps are hunting cabins or tented camps. They are clean, warm and comfortable but have no modern conveniences. Base camps are equipped with cots, showers and electric generators. Base camps are located in a mountain valley at around 3,500 -4,500 feet / 1,200 – 1,500 meters. |
| Weather |
The Altai Republic has temperate continental climate with relatively short and hot summers, and long, cold and at some places very frosty winters from November to March. The country that elk inhabit is subject to great varieties of weather. During daylight hours the temperature in September is from 40-45 F / +10 to +15 C and during night time from 25-32 F / 0 up to - 5 degrees C. Expect a hard frost in the mornings. |
