There are 7 subspecies of snow sheep in the world Dall sheep and Stone sheep are located in USA and Canada. But the rest 5 of them: Kamchatka, Koryak, Okhotsk, Yakutia, Kolyma and Chukotka snow sheep are located in Russia.

August 1 to October 15. Optimum hunting period is from August 1 to September 1.

Snow Sheep hunting

Hunting is done on foot. You have to be ready for 10-12 miles walking a day. Each hunter is provided with two guides. Spike camps are used if sheep are found far from the base camp. The altitude is about 6,000 feet. The terrain is not very difficult, nevertheless it offers the right portion of challenge.

Hunting Base Camps

Accommodation is in tented camps. They are equipped with stoves and portable cots. Usually there are two - three hunters per tent. Showers are rarely available. In most cases, a hot water basin is used. The camps are located in mountain valleys at 3000 feet (800-1000 m). Every camp has a cook who can offer you home style meals. Electricity is supplied by generating sets.

How to get there

You fly to Moscow where you are met by our crew, then fly to Magadan. We will do everything possible to expedite the customs procedure. You are accompanied by English-speaking PROFIHUNT guide from Moscow. A big Russian helicopter MI-8 takes you from Yakutsk to the hunting camp, the flight lasts one hour.

Weather in Russia

In August During daylight hours the temperature is from 40 F / 15 C up to 50 F/ 25 C and during night from 32 F / 0 C up to 40 F / 10 C. Weather is unpredictable in Yakutia. Snow and cold temperatures are possible already in the beginning of August already.
