Argali hunting tips

Marco Polo sheep hunting is conducted one on one. In the morning you get with your guide and driver into your 4x4 vehicle.  Horseback hunt is not available in Tajikistan. During the day you will explore the upper edges of the mountains, glassing the hillsides and feeding areas. Normally you can see up to 200-300 hundred rams a day and very often much more. The average size group of sheep is 25-35 males. Once the trophy is located you complete your stalking on foot at elevation up to 14,000 feet / 5,000 m. Physical condition is a factor on the stalking portion of the hunt. A long range shooting, up to 400-500 yards/m is usual for Marco Polo Argali hunting.

Hunting Base Camps

The camps in Tajikistan are located at 12,000 to 13,500 feet, a famous “Hot Spring” camp at 12,600 feet. They are permanent structures. They are warm, furnished, clean and comfortable with separate areas for dining, bathing and sleeping and has electrical generation. You will find good food and a quality service. Bring with you any special energy snacks, they are good help at high elevation. Every camp is equipped with a satellite-phone or radio station, and the first medical kit.

How to get there

As we organize this hunt in 2 different hunting areas in Tajikistan, the transportation can be either through Bishkek and Osh in Kyrgyzstan or through Dushanbe and Khorog in Tajikistan. We meet you in Bishkek / Dushanbe and our crew assists you through the customs, then you take 45 minute flight to Osh/ Khorog. 4x4 van gets the hunters from Osh / Khorog to the hunting area in Tajikistan. This route from Osh / Khorog to the hunting country is rather tiresome but you gradually adapt to high altitude during your travel.
