Koryak Snow Sheep hunting in Russia

The north of Kamchatka Peninsula offers some excellent hunting for Koryak Snow Sheep, Kamchatka Brown Bear and Chukotka Moose. This huge area still has excellent ram population. Koryak Snow Sheep average size is 34-35 inches with occasional 40-inche ram taken. Sheep are found at 4,000-5,000 feet / 1,300-1,700 m.

How to get there Supposedly the Vladivostok Avia airline will start regular flights Anchorage-Petropavlovsk from July 2008. However at the present moment the most reliable way to get to Petropavlovsk is to fly via Moscow. Please contact us for updated flight information. You will be met by our representative at the airport and assisted through the customs. Then we will take you to the hotel, or transfer to the domestic airport for your flight MoscowPetropavlovsk. It is a non-stop 9 hour flight. In Petropavlovsk you will be met at the airport and then transferred to the hotel for overnight. The next day you fly from Petropavlovsk to Palana or Ossora and from there we charter you by a helicopter to the hunting area. Overnights in Moscow and Petropavlovsk might be necessary depending on airline schedule.
Hunting season The season is from August 1 to Mid-September Optimum hunting period is from 1st of August to 10th of September.
Hunting All hunting is conducted on foot. Normally two guides are provided per hunter. A great deal of walking and climbing is required. Be in good shape. A spike camp is a part of the hunt.
Base Camps The camps are modern windproof tents. They are equipped with stoves and cots. There are one separate large tent for dining and one for shower. The camps are located in mountain valleys at 2,500-3,000 feet (800-1000m). Every camp has a cook who can offer you home style meals. You will find very good food and quality service. Electricity is supplied by generating sets.
Weather In August During daylight hours the temperature is from 40 F / 15 C up to 50 F/ 25 C and during night from 32 F / 0 C up to 40 F / 10 C.

Day 1 Arrival in Moscow, Flight to
Petropavlovsk
Day 2 Arrival in Petropavlovsk, check into
hotel
Day 3 Flight to Palana with regular flight in the morning at about 10.00 a.m., then helicopter flight to the hunting area
Day 4 – 12 9 day hunt
Day 13 Flight to Palana, and stay overnight
Day 14 Flight back to Petropavlovsk, stay overnight
Day 15 Back to Moscow, overnight
