Yakut Snow Sheep hunting in Russia

OTHER Language PDF - French, German

Russia has a vast opportunity for different species of snow sheep. Snow Sheep population in Russia except protected species such as Putorana and Chukotka sheep is calculated around 57,000 heads. A large portion of sheep population is located in Yakutia, about 40,000 animals. Success is nearly 100%.

How to get there You fly to Moscow where you are met by our crew, then fly to Yakutsk. We will do everything possible to expedite the customs procedure. You are accompanied by English-speaking PROFI HUNT guide from Moscow. A big Russian helicopter MI-8 takes you from Yakutsk to the hunting camp, the flight lasts almost two hours.
Hunting season August 1 to October 15. Optimum hunting period is from August 1 to September 1.
Hunting Hunting is done on foot. You have to be ready for 10-12 miles walking a day. Each hunter is provided with two guides. Spike camps are used if sheep are found far from the base camp. The altitude is about 6,000 feet. The terrain is not very difficult, nevertheless it offers the right portion of challenge.
Base Camps Accommodation is in tented camps. They are equipped with stoves and portable cots. Usually there are two - three hunters per tent. Showers are rarely available. In most cases, a hot water basin is used. The camps are located in mountain valleys at 3000 feet (800-1000 m). Every camp has a cook who can offer you home style meals. Electricity is supplied by generating sets.
Weather In August During daylight hours the temperature is from 40 F / 15 C up to 50 F/ 25 C and during night from 32 F / 0 C up to 40 F / 10 C. Weather is unpredictable in Yakutia. Snow and cold temperatures are possible already in the beginning of August already.
